USES

My latest  use  for some of my designs was taking some of the borders that I have and cutting out sections making appliqué designs for my vests and then adding crystals to them.  Really turned out nice!   I don't have any of these designs on the website, but I do plan on putting some here this winter.

Crafts - Making your own stencils

Make your own stencils

For those of you that like to create crafty items for yourself and family, I've written a few directions for creating your own stencils.

1)  I enlarge or shrink a stencil-like design and print it out.  You can find some of these on our graphics pages

2)  After I print the stencil, I trace the pattern onto a blank stencil sheet using a sharpie magic marker.  [the blank stencil sheets can be found at your craft stores - the heavier Mylar is the best to use.] I even found a vinyl used for tablecloths that works well.

3)  I tape the marked sheet onto a thick piece of cardboard (good) or a piece of glass (better). Then I cut out the stencil areas using a stencil knife or a stencil burner.  (the stencil burner does NOT work for the vinyl)

4)  I tape the stencil onto whatever I want to stencil and apply the paint.  I've used the  stencils to make designs on my grandchildren's T-shirts, my walls, mailbox, rocks outside the house, wall-hangings, chairs, tack boxes, curtains, and rugs.

But you can stencil walls, floors, lamp covers, shower curtains, pocketbooks, aprons, chairs, hats - use your imagination.

I've had to create some stencils with frogs, lizards, and dinosaurs for the kiddies as well.  I made some shirts for the horse loving ones and the others had a fit.
